W-8BEN help

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Michau, Apr 28, 2006.

I was wondering if someone could help me how to fill the W-8BEN form correctly for a corporation. I found some examples on the net but they aere for individuals. And the instructions from IRS site are so full of legalese I can't understand them.

Basically, I don't know how to fill section 9 - which checkboxes should I tick? I figured out that probably I should tick checkoxes a. and c. but am not sure.

My advice is spend $100 and ask a tax attorney or cpa (or the equivalent in Poland).

But how do I find an American CPA when I'm in Poland? Polish CPAs do not know about American tax forms...

Post the section that you're having problems with, along with the instructions and maybe we can give you some pointers.

Brian, looks like you had problems with the same section as me. What was your final solution? Calling the U.S. number you provided would be really costly here from Poland...

I ended up having to call - it was either that or lose a big corporate client. Seemed worth spending a little on a phone call to stop that. :)

Yes, I know that you called, just can you tell which checkboxes they finally told you to tick?

I believe it all depends on your business classification and country tax treaty, but for what it's worth, in Section II, 9, I checked a & c, and left 10 and 11 blank.

That's what I also figured out, to check a and c. I'll see what happens :)
