Can you guys take a quick peak at my site and give me some advice on ad placement? What types of ads and which pages, etc. Thanks!

Wow, I used to want a Nighthawk so bad when I was a teen, but all I could get was a lousy 600 Ninja.

    But I digress.

Your best bet is probably to put ads in the pages where the pictures are shown to visitors. You'll probably have to tell your users to be more specific with their items (picture content) though, so you can get relevant ads for that specific photo being shown.

    :D That's my husband's motorcycle.

Anyway, most of our customers utilize the optional text, so that may be a good idea. Thanks for the feedback.

Since they'll just be linking people to those images, they won't be inclined to put too much text with the images (unless I'm wrong and they do?), so you might want to "nudge" them into putting in more text, like describing the object up for sale in some detail. Maybe make it that before they can submit the image they have to fill out all forms, including the "describe your item" form?

Yes, they are linking to these images, but our customers do generally include text with their photos. This helps them to describe the item in more detail and pay less for additional lines in their newspaper ad. Right now, adding text is optional on the upload screen. I think in order for ads to work on this page, we would have to make the text required. And, like you said, encourage them to describe their item in detail. Or, maybe even add a separate text box or something.

Do you think ads would work on any of the other pages?

How about trying a link unit in the white space above the item search bar.

My gut says No, because you're supplying a service to the sellers who want to know where to upload their images for free, and they're just out to read instructions and how to do what they came there to do. And in any case, you may lose customers to adwords advertisers looking for customers of their own to use their free image hosting site!

You should definitely look to the "big boys" that provide free web hosting for inspiration. I don't believe they have any Adsense on their main site, just on the hosted pages. Some might have CPM banners. In fact, that might be a good way for you to go as well. Put CPM banners on the hosted pages for fallback revenue in case your Adsense ads don't take off. After all, if you're going to commit to that much bandwidth, you should assure yourself of returns one way or another.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. :)

I so appreciate your thorough analysis on this. Anyway, I have tested it out and put some ads on the other pages (I have already seen an increase in clicks the last hour since I added them. Yay! :D )

As far as adwords advertisers taking away my customers, I have yet to see an image hosting ad of any kind served on my site. I don't know why, you would think there would be. My take on it is that I don't think most of the free image hosting sites out there (and there are hundreds of them) bother spending money on cpc type ads due to the high cost. I think they depend on word of mouth. Just my opinion, of course. Most of the ads served on my site are for classifieds, photo printing, cameras, newspaper advertising, etc.

But, you are definately right, that is something to be very aware of.

I will definately look into CPM banners, too.
