Want to understand concept of social bookmarking

Hi Friends,
This is my first post on this forum.

I read that social bookmarking helps to increase traffic of our website.
After doing some research, I came to know that social bookmarks saves the link in the web.

Can you pls explain how this concept works?

I want to understand how people will come to know about this or bring traffic to my site.

Also suppose someone did social bookmarking of his/her site on lets say yahoo.
how i will come to know about this?

 

People discover websites through various methods and create bookmarks for them on public systems. Other users can then access these shared public bookmarks to get to your website. You can either create social bookmarks yourself, pay others to do it or have other people do it for free ( by creating interesting content ) so people will bookmark your website.

Using Twitter or Google isn't really social bookmarking. That falls under the category of Social Media and SEO. For bookmarking, sites such as Digg and Reddit allow users to share websites they feel are worth value to the community and further increase your sites presence on those networks as well as backlinks.

 

They are still social bookmarking as someone is bookmarking it socially for other people to view.

Social bookmarking, to be useful, needs to be public, not private. In case you bookmarked your site using google and yahoo those are private bookmarks. Not public. Hence they cant create any traffic. But if you submit/bookmark to delicious (a yahoo property), newsvine, etc. then it can bring in substantial traffic from those sites.

 

In addition, you may use SocialMarker (socialmarker.com)for it makes social bookmarking of websites an easier process.

it increases number of backlinks so contributes to your site ranking...plus its like a bookmark on your browser so ppl visit the site more frequently...
