Warehouse Shipping Company

I know there are a lot of small ecommerce website owners out there. They generally run their product selling business out of their home and garage. I had the idea of creating a warehouse shipping company. This business would be for people selling their own products. The business would be a warehouse, where ecommerce business owners could house their products. Then when they recieve an order, they would email, fax, or call it in. Then we'd pick the product, box it, and ship it for them.

There'd be a storage fee price and also a shipping/handling surcharge. This company would basically do the back in for small to medium size ecommerce sites. Where by eliminating the hassle of them having to deal with the inventory, shipping, and receiving themselves from their garage.

Do you think a business such as this, would be useful to small ecommerce business owners and people selling on ebay?

The biggest hassle would getting their products to the warehouse. Of course if the business was successful enough, additional warehouses could be opened up through the country. Making it closer for them to get their products there.

It's a good business model but it's been and is being done. I've used a couple and know there is room for improvement. Much of the success of these companies is dependant on their software and customer service.

    Good luck.

It sounds alot like the Ebay drop off sites.
You give them the item and they list and ship it for you.

I didn't even realize anyone was doing such. I thought I had an original idea. I've looked for places like this and couldn't find any. That's why I try not to deal with selling products online, it's just a major pain to do the shipping of the items.

Depends, are you stating I as a business owner could farm out my product shipments directly to you, inventory, packing, etc. If that's the case and it was done properly it could be sold even to those of us already with storage other than the home, ;)

Drop shipping is completely different from what geej is offering I believe?

I believe there may be some similiar ones already, but not certain if I'm getting your total overall idea.

UPS does this on a larger scale I believe. The reason why a lot of startup companies probably keep everything like that in house is because they want to keep costs down.

Here might be a way to improve on this though. If you can offer some sort of production line for several types of products along with a warehouse you might have something worth using. (not sure on feasability etc though. Just a thought)
