I would say please stop deciding on whether Indians / any other country people are scammers or not.
We should decide how to stop these SCAMS.
We all need to think where to report about these cheats as i see the 1200$ Scammer is also still not punished.
If we all know about some medium through which we can punish these scammers we wont be ever cheated again.
Like reporting to some Legal Authority and all.
For example when i do business in dp withsome i check his/her's iTrader ratings and he previous feedbacks.
If they are poor how can we enter into business with him.
Hope you get me what i say

The problem is you get what you pay for.

Employ a kid from some foreign country and you will get either scammed or at the very least a poor job.

If you hire a quality prefessional from your own country then its likely you will have a good experience.

I am sorry to hear all these rip off's.
Please don't hold all indians responsible for what 1 indian did to you.

It's sad to know that you came across scammers looking for quick bugs, but there are people who have established long term business projects also and are looking for company goodwill instead of money.

When outsourcing your projects, please try and talk to the person on phone, ask them to fill a little form about their address and other contact information and ALWAYS get the IP when the submit button is clicked. In case someone provides you a fake address, the IP can be used to get the exact location of the person. Most serious business use DSL connections, so there are fewer chances of rotating or auto assign IP's.
Even internet cafe's are on DSL's and would have a constant IP which you can use in case of fraud.

If possible, try and get contact information of previous work done and verify before hiring.

I am sorry and sad that you guys had a bad experience dealing with indians... but all are not the same.

    Best regards

Interesting to read all of your experiences with scammers... I haven't been scammed in the same way (touch wood) but I have recently been scammed by a hosting company (meinhosting.com) which i did a little research through Google.com to find out this 'one man band' is a well known scam artist, but nothing has been done about him! Luckily I was only scammed for about $60 (£30 something) but again... it's the principle.
There doesn't seem to be anywhere to turn to on the net to get legal advice on what to do, how to take action etc. Just a gap in the market I suppose, but so many people are suffering because of that gap.

    - Maybe this gap should be filled, quickly?

    P.S.
I have been scammed, only once, stated above... and the culprit is from Malaysia. Maybe this is just a coincedence, or maybe there is actually an abundance of unlawful people in the Asia, more so than other area's of the world?
I know Africa is a widely known continent for 'scams' concerning imports. Maybe Asia is the main continent for 'electronical scams'?

On the principal of the whole thing I'd kick his arse into internet hell but did you mean 24 dollars not cents?

It hardly seems worth the hassle for that little revenue.

    Very true,

As the old adage says You pay peanuts, you get monkeys

In defence of the people that use foreign services, it can be hard to find people in your own country to do the work. I have several jobs at the moment I require a gun coder for, but finding them (particularly from my own country) is another story.

Well I agree I need to be careful of who I hire, but this is a DP member who I got a script from, that offered to install it on a single domain for me.

I now have an american programmer working with us and I enjoy working with him very much, he monitors a few people coding on a test server for us from india. I think it will work out ok this way

It's great to hear AdSense are hunting them down and will shut his AdSense account down - honestly, some Indians (the scamming ones) don't know how lucky they are living in India and been able to earn money through AdSense. Considering the little one would need to earn a living off it in India these scammers really shoot themselves in the foot by getting up to silly tricks like these.

If they invested their time wisely for a few months they could be earning more then most people in India earn and take advantage of the oppertunity AdSense and the Internet presents.

Look at Tuning - a great example of a professional and hard working Indian who never lets me down with directory submissions. I'm sure he's making a healthy living from that operation alone. Then there's Amit who seems to be good at what he does.

These scammers (if you're reading this!), you should look up to these guys, take a leaf out of their books and take advantage of living in India and earning USD. Losing your AdSense account is one way to cut off what could be a great legitimate revenue stream.

    Pete

I just want to echo this...

If you have an operating site and want someone to do work, you really should have them working on a test server. Set up a domain like beta.domain.com or dev.domain.com and the .htaccess it.

This way you can review and test everything before it impacts your revenue producing site. This is good advice for all. And what's $8/mo for an extra hosting account on a different server (not a subdomain on your unlimited domain hosting account where your site is at) to protect your goods :)

Why not develop a simple script that could parse your site to ensure all the ID's are correct.

We have two different scripts that do that, but the last programmers found a way to mask it and keep us from finding it with a "grip"

My programmer said " I cant beleive it , I never saw anything like it in my life"

They found it by manually searching the code which was not easy on 1600 sites. He found the code for a second time in the smarties

A very sad news MR. Crow,
But I just dont understand, why you people hire someone who just joined DP 2-3 months ago, and share your confidential Information with him? , I know that cost of outsourcing your work to India is very less, but there are many professional companies out there. choose them, your data and everything is secure with them.
just for few bucks dont go and hire any n00b.
