Web Consultancy business, do you think it is a good business?

    Hi,

Me and my cousin had talked about creating a web consultancy business and the scope would be like we will be the mediating body from client to developer/designer. I have been a developer for years and years now and my cousin sells websites very good.

Usually, a client does not know what they want or need, and likewise the designer/developer doesn't understand/comprehend what the client needs. Both parties usually have little time to spend on the project details because both sides simply want to just start with the project, which usually creates a lot of confusion and adjustments and sometimes leads to poor satisfaction on the client's end. Also, some designer/developer are actual rip-offs who charges more than they should, so we would also want to handle such cases. In line with this, we will charge very little amount for doing the study, proposals, and other stuffs that both client and his/her developer doesnt have time to really go down deep.

Bottom line, we will be like the "party planner" for the client.

I need your honest input guys, suggestions are very very much welcome and if you can give us your thoughts, that would be great and will be highly appreciated.

Yup, that is true, some people maybe like you, likes/wants to control everything that is being done on a website, my idea may apply for people who has really no knowledge of web but would like to indulge in creating one for their company (I honestly know there are still millions and millions based on experience), sort of like those who still lives in the "conventional" type of doing business who now wants to have a change, having a website is an example. So based on your opinion, I can at least gear my "text contents" to try to go into the direction where conventional business people still goes. :)

My idea was not to control the flow of the project, rather provide paid information that are not being discussed by webmaster/developer/designers.

Well since I am highly connected with designers/developers, I guess my niche is to recommend cheaper price, like for example a site was priced at $1000, i could somehow haggle the price with the designer/developer of their choice, or, find them a better deal from another.

Since I have been a developer (and still), part of it is that niche maybe is that I know the real running price for a website (of course this is based where I live), and also I know the real work involved (some designer/developer uses client's ignorance to jack up the pricing), so then, i can either haggle a better price or find another designer/developer that charges less.

Making it cost-effective for the company/entity.

Guess that is what my "niche" is...

I am still open to any suggestion or opinion, I wish to add all of these into my consideration before i even begin the business.

Could be. Consultancy on website developing might work (thinking of real developing, not marketing or other things).

However getting the clients would be hard. Having those to do the development is not that hard since you're a developer yourself, but having clients is harder :)

I really don't think that it will make much money. Most people who want to get a website usually have already an idea in mind. The two things that they will be looking for are a programmer/web designer and a SEO expert/marketer.

Well the idea is not get big money out of this but to maybe get some residual income...Also, many people have ideas in mind but do not really know how much work is involved. This is where we will come to explain the work in details and why they are being charged or where they can negotiate, what are needed and what are excess od the deals etc. bottom line try to make it easy for that company and possibly make it cheaper or cost-effective.

As I have noted, I can recommend good designers/developers to a client with lesser cost (mostly), and usually, there is always a paid maintenance involved on websites. So if we can somehow serve as "brokers" with "broker's fee" that can be included on the maintenance of the site, we might be getting some without even working on the website.

So the 2 things they will be looking for is what I can readily recommend too, maybe get some for recommending too. What do you think?

If you can handle the onslaught of nonstop questions from people who don't know how to turn on their own PC then go for it.
