Web Design Biz

Ok so I am starting up my design biz, but I am still not familiar about how a lot of things work. number one, I noticed that most web design provide a domain and hosting with their service. Well with the domain whos name will they register it in, their own name or their clients name. Also would the client have to register it themselves or not if they do it in their own name?

We do not.. nor never have provided that... I don't think it would be an important USP (unique selling proposition) for ya... I wouldn't worry about it.

We did start a hosting company a couple years back to handle clients with no hosting or crappy hosting... but we have never bundled them

 

i hear what youre saying, but the market I am targetting are businesses with no websites and that know little about the net. So therefore they want us to provide them the whole package.

Sure, if it suits the business model, by all means. We genreally don't get that many people without the domain/hosting in place. I would say 80% or more already have it.

So it may be a good selling point, all depends on the market group

 

When we chose a design company, we also wanted hosting.
It is a MUST that the domain be registered to the client's name but paperwork be done by you as the agent. That's just us of course, but I'm sure many IT challenged companies would want the same.

 

I provide hosting with design services. The clients had the domain name.
And if you wish to provide domain services, it should be on the clients name.

You can set up an account through godaddy and sell the names on your site. This way the client can register the name from your site and you can set the pricing up.

The good thing about doing the hosting is that it's a monthly income.

When you get tired of running the design business you can retire on the hosting business.

I've not been spending much time on the forums this year. Hoping to start making up for lost time soon and I'm working on getting out of the web design business.

I want something where I don't have customers.

 

So is it legal for me to register a domain in their name for them? And wouldn't it sound a little sus if my name on my paypal account is different?

 

I'm a bit lazy, I register them all in my name and transfer them into the customers name once the site is finished. Creating that many accounts and trying to keep up with passwords and logins just seems like to much work to me.

Its a tough business that I think you need to attract off line business unless you freelance. Rr maybe a SEO wizard with a big website with very high search engine rankings.

So damn competitive it hurts.
