is there any standards when creating psd's for website so when sliced up and coded it looks exactly like the psd. what i mean by this is what do you usually use for font sizes, banner ad sizes, search boxes, page width. elements that are basically in every webpage. are there standards for these. so when you create sites in photoshop what do you have a tendency to every time? just wondering on fellow designers on how they create their designs. thankx.

Width = usually fixed at less than 800px (yes I'm old school!)
Web fonts = verdana, arial or tahoma 9px > 12px

I also try and make the main body section of the site around 480-490px (468px is standard banner size), so I can throw in a banner or text ad if I need to.

    That's it for me.

Usually if and when I use PS to create a layout I don't worry too much about the ad areas and what not. All of this is actually handled by the css. I just use PS to create the parts of the layout that can't be created with HTML/CSS and then build the rest of the site around that stuff.

Make sure you use 1:1 ratio and separate all the elements, in well named layers and layer groups, do not merge fonts with backgrounds.

The names must make sense such as
    - header
    - navigation
    - content
    - footer
