Websites for New Bands?

    Hi there,

ive recently started to set up a small site for a band that are kinda 'unknown' over here in the UK and in the USA but are popular in another country. They are releasing their album over here in a couple of weeks.

The idea was to set up a small site about them, then do the whole 'affiliate' thing for the purchase of the album, and then some adsense.

    Anyways, to the question,

Has anyone had any success with this type of thing?

Are there any problems I could run into that I'm not seeing?

and do you think it is possible to make money from it?

Hope you guys can give me some feedback!

    Thanks!

never really see affiliate sales for small bands - you should try a street team. did you get them a myspace profile?

Definetly agree on going the myspace route. Any band that isnt advertising in myspace is only hurting them self.

they do have a myspace account aswell as a small website. However i have found alot of other information (interviews etc) and have enough content to make a site.

Also, i think i have done a poor job of explaining what i mean.

I am in know way associated with the band (they are from another country) and they are getting more and more popular.

I am simply trying to make a small site and possibly a community (kinda like a fansite) before they get too big (if they ever get big that is:)).

    In that case.

Fan sites can be very successfull.
Dont use the band name in the URL. Possible lawsuit.
I would just make it into a forum since Adsense wont really make you any money with that. Money would be made selling the CD through Amazon or whoever.

lol, guess what my domain is?

Nah, I know they can just take it off me if they want it, but i might be able to get some traffic to the site before they start trying take it away from me.

And ive also got plenty of links to the official site, so its not like im trying to be sneaky or anything.

    Thanks for the advice mate!

Maybe turn the wholething around. Quickly shove up a one page site about a rondom topic. Then put a massive "FOR SALE" sign up - email me.

Who knows you may get a big offer?

lawsuit?....well maybe, but i doubt it. 99% of bands need the promotion and would appreciate extra cd sales - they dont care if it comes from affiliates.

I was actually thinking about doing that, but thought that if i make an actual site i can sell the site with the domain and possibly earn more money. Also, it might actually be successfull anyway.

I think i agree wit you with the domain, as they are fairly new, they might be happy of the extra promotion (after all, if i promot the site, i am promoting them)

    Thanks!
