User-Generated Content (UGC)

A great SEO tools is UGC. It builds trust to your site and its free marketing! Search engines such as Google tend to place trustworthy sites higher on SERP. You can incentivize customers to share products from your site to the online community.

Alt-Text Images

Quality of images is important, but you’ll want to add alt-text to your images. If a customer is looking to purchase shoes and searches “red suede flats,” you want your image to show up on the SERP. It makes your image easier to find and links to your site.

Ratings and Reviews

This aligns with UGC, but it is important to note that ratings and reviews can really push your site to new heights. Customers trust other customers. They want to see what other people say before they purchase. Make sure you have review functionality on all of your product pages. Trustworthy sites tend to land higher on SERPs.

Mobile Friendly

This is a big key factor. Most customers research sites on their phones before they complete purchases. Many purchase on mobile as well. Be sure you have a mobile version of your site. You want to cover all your bases.

Increase Dwell Time

When shoppers spend a lot of time on your site, the more likely you’ll rank higher on search engines. Make sure your load times on your site are below 3 seconds as well. This will help lower your bounce and exit rates.

Test Placement on SERP

Type in some keywords that relate to your products (Obviously, don’t use your company name) and see where you land on SERPs.

Let’s say you run an online cosmetics store that sells red lipstick, write keywords in your description to optimize your page, and use variations of words. Example could be: “cherry red lipstick” or “glossy red lipstick.” Make sense?

Well written points that should be considered while doing SEO for eCommerce website. I will add one point here about Content.
Use unique content for product description, title, meta description, image alt tags, header tags etc.
If you have same products but different in colors, size, brand use canonical tags for the URLs.

 

It's just my two cents, as all of these posts are, but I really can't stress the importance of being mobile-friendly hard enough. Way too many sites out there these days don't offer a good mobile solution or, worse, don't even have a mobile site yet, which is kind of ridiculous at this point. If your ecommerce site isn't mobile friendly at this point, you'd better offer the best, rarest, cheapest freakin' products in the world or 80% of your audience isn't going to give a crap.

 

Take the time to pick your niche. Be selective and make sure its possible to earn.

I like your reviews point. I was thinking about granting a discount to customers who post a review on their purchased items, but not sure if that would be effective or not. Still might give a try regardless.

 

You are right. I agree with you. I also use one more strategy include the keyword in URL. It is really helpful.

 

For SEO the only thing that you need is content as blog content, everything else is just what "experts" enjoy trying to convince the newbies that is useful...
