If you are having trouble with Technorati, you are going to need to be much more specific.

I think it really depends on your sites content. Some bookmarking sites perform better for entertainment sites, others do well for technical sites. To me this cant be decided without knowing the target audience.

    Generic answer:

Digg, Stumleupon, Technorati, Simpy, Blinklist, Taggly

These are the Social Bookmark sites that GENERICALLY get the most love from Google at the moment. I can create a blog, claim it at Technorati, Digg my first post and be indexed in a couple of hours.

Another place that can pay dividends is Yahoo Answers

Not only do urls placed in answers there get indexed but it's a good place to see what people are looking for. :)

None. Social bookmark sites don't exist to promote your pet site. This is called spam. If your site is good, people will add it to social bookmark sites out of a genuine desire to recommend it to others. If not, you putting it there won't change other people not liking it, and they'll vote it down.

If we follow the policy of not submitting to social bookmarking sites then I guess we should not submit to search engines, press release agencies, article directories, nor should we send email unless someone emails us and asks us to send them something because EVERYTHING you do that is uninvited would be SPAM by the broad definitions of a couple of posters here.

I have to TOTALLY disagree. Posting to Social Bookmark sites is an excellent way of building up backlinks to your site as well as a quick way to get indexed BUT like ANYTHING it can be abused. There are always going to be people who abuse any system. I hate the SPAM posts I get on my blogs for Viagra and crap but there are tools made that eliminate it.

Someone who posts to a handful of bookmark sites per blog post is not a spammer in my estimation, it is those who are using automated software posting 20 times a day and bookmarking to every possible site that could aptly be labled as "spamming"

    Gregg :)
