What average price do you pay for a litre of petrol ?

Conversion to USD is preferable so as to enable a uniform comparison.

    UK - July 2012, an average litre of petrol costs 132p = 1.32 GBP = 2.07 USD.

Gas around here is a little under $4/gallon... which works out to about $1 per liter.

As an appendix to my OP, this link http://www.mytravelcost.com/petrol-prices/ gives at a glance a direct picture of what we all pay at the pump relative to each other by country.

The bars are in Euro-cents, so reflect cents in other currencies. For instance by multiplying by the factors given :- 1.25 x bar value = US cents and 0.8 x bar value = GB pence. Divide by 100 and you get USD and GBP. Using this bar chart, local currencies do not matter.

These prices are PUMP prices and have little to do with true petrol or oil prices for probably well over 80% of the world`s countries. In the Western world and many other countries, petrol is severely taxed and used as a primary tool of taxation by most Governments.

In the EU for instance, petrol is taxed between 70-80% of the pump price, so that the true price is only about 1/4 of what is paid to fill up the tank. All the EU countries are at the bottom end of the bar chart.

So although petrol prices vary enormously across the world, many countries cripple the customer with high taxation whilst other countries have a much cheaper deal. In the Middle eastern oil producing countries, petrol is dirt cheap. In Iran for instance at 9 Euro-cents per litre or a mere 11.25 US cents, petrol is probably cheaper than treated water, similar in the other oil producing countries shown at the top.
