Depends on your site and your niche. Digg is the one you always hear about "crashing servers". But that is only if you get on the front page and most sites don't.

My answer is Stumble. Digg will only give you traffic if your article can stay at the first page

For me, Digg give me more traffics. I rarely get traffic from Stumbleupon.

digg gives you pretty much zero traffic unless you get it to the front page, and then it really only gives you traffic for one day.

Most I've had from digg is approx 90k visitors in 24h

stumble basically gets you any amount of traffic, from 10 visitors to 500k over a few months - 500k is my max to any page on my site from stumble. The nice thing about SU is that the traffic can go on for months. digg is basically a one-hit wonder.

NOW, the traffic is worthless because it doesn't convert well. forget about what gives you more traffic - the only reason to do this is for inbound links. thousands of bloggers watch digg, reddit, SU and blog about what they see. many link back to the original source... bingo, inbound links. it seems as though more bloggers watch digg, as I get more inbound links from 50k visitors from digg that i d from 50k visitors from stumble.

i'm intimately familiar with all of these sites & can tell you anything you need to know... about how to best use them. I will not give up how to get to the FP of digg or reddit or get huge on stumble tho, so dont ask :) ... ask me anything else tho

You need something quite unique to get any decent traffic from either.

Maybe a picture site of funny photos or something like that?

I don't get much traffic digg. But it is really a good way to get your site indexed by google without hours.

If your're considering the conversion rate, the answer is none of them

    stumbleupon.

conversion ratewise speaking... they can give leads... that can lead to conversions. ;)
(okay, interval has a good point there - it's probably not the best source for traffic)

In general, this is quite true... the conversion rate is very poor, however I've found a formula that actually works.

I've spent the last couple of years focusing on digg , SU & Reddit & if you're smart about it, there is a lot you can do.

According to my google webmaster tools, stumble sends more traffic to my forum then digg.

it depends on MANY variables, it depends on your site, whether you are marketing to digg/SU/reddit & how good you are at it. It also depends on your content.

market to both if your content can support it.

In two different blogs I get two different results, so i would say both of them :) depending on the content.
