What CMS would be the best for a recipe site

    Hello Everyone,

    I was planning to launch a new recipe site for which I had trouble choosing the right CMS. I've had some experience with PostNuke, but personally I don't like it that much. I've used Mambo as well, well it seemed to be a bit tedious, well that could be because I just used it once. Any help would be of great value.

    1) Suggest me the right CMS?

    Which should be
    • Easily Configurable
    • Ease Update
    • Wide selection of Modules
    • Search Engine friendly URLs
    • Reliable/Stable

    2) Suggest - where I'd get it

    3) And the pertaining template for it. eg: 101cookbooks which I liked the most.

    joomla has 3 recipe extensions available. i would suggest at least installing joomla & trying out the 2 gnu extensions, and if neither of them are enough maybe there's a demo of the commercial one you can try.
    to be honest, once you get the hang of joomla/mambo, you can whip stuff together quickly.

    Looks like they are using MovableType.

    I used MT for a recipe site, once you get used to the templates everything is easily customized. True of WordPress as well I'd think.

    I think your best choice would be Drupal (http://drupal.org). It has many, many modules and using CCK (http://drupal.org/project/cck) and the submission queue (http://drupal.org/node/26106) you could make it so that your users contribute to the site.

    This is the most powerful CMS I've ever seen and you can customize it anyway you want! Good luck!

    I would write my own CMS if I were you! But I guess, for people who are not programmers, hire someone to make a custom CMS. ( that definitely gives you more options). You can have it your way instead of the highway (where everyone goes !)

    For example www.jokegoogle.com

    I wrote my own script/admin section where I can add/update/delete. It has a HTML WYSIWYG editor too.

    Showing off I guess ;)

    I think, I'd try Joomla! and use the templates. Hopefully, it works out fine. Well is it SE friendly? Especially google?

    I think Drupal is the best CMS for seo - Joomla 1.0.8 is far behind with it's messy template code and the way it handles metatags (although these can be fixed with some work).

    If you go with Joomla don't forget to download a SEF extension too. I like the Open SEF which works very well and is free to download from the Joomla extensions site.
