What Colors Work Best For Adsense? Here's my 2c.

I read in the transcript of the last Google webinar that changing ad colors can help combat ad blindness. They also pointed out that the color changes did not need to be drastic.

So my little experiment is to change the ad link color only and in subtle ways, by using randomization between three colors, 000080, 0000ff & 336699 (medium blue, bright blue and pastel blue - which is the site link color)

As I wrap up the first full day, matching the site link color of 336699 is the winner getting 24% of the clicks compared to 16% for the other colors. I'm surprised that the site matching color is getting more clicks than the standard blue I am currently using (000080). Clicks are in the 3 figures per day. CTR averages double digits.

I'm going to run this particular test for a couple more days test the consistency of day 1.

FYI: I ran a 1 day test of an orange link color and my ctr was down 30%.

So the conclusion of day 1 is - the same ol rules apply, blend into your site as much as possible, right down to link colors.

I can report the numbers based on the several day test if anyone cares.

Absolutely agree! as I mentioned elsewhere in another topic also about "which color works the best". I always blend the link color with the link I use in my site, in that way it looks more natural!

Hey thanks for the tips! Gave me the idea to test my ads' link colors as well. :D

I'm currently randomizing link color with php and using different channels to monitor CTR. :D

And always set your background and border color the same as the page background color.

There is no rite or wrong, but most of us here agree that the most effective way is to blend the ads with its background color. For instance, your website background is blue, your ads background should be blue as well. I dont think white works the best in this case.

Well, after testing for a week I can say that subtle color changes in the link color only do not seem to make a significant change in CTR most changes observed tended to be from the content and relevance of the ad, not the link color... and yes, testing the background color confirmed that matching the background and border colors to the site bg color gave the best results.

    Interesting...

I've never tried testing on this scale, but this has definitely drawn my attention!
