What do you think about Sears and Kmart closing stores?

I heard they are closing over 100 stores in the USA, this could be the first step of their complete shutdown. I went to Macy's the day after Christmas and the store was so packed. Then I went to Sears right after and it was like a ghost town, nobody was there.

Its a shame that we might be losing a long running business in America, but I think Sears made a mistake by purchasing Kmart. Walmart killed off Kmart years ago.

well the competition for sears and kmart are just redicolous. sears is pretty expensive if you ask me and kmart, people just rather go to walmart its better and cheaper too so i dont know. they definitly made a mistake for purchasing kmart but the truth is, they always been like 2nd best and the ones on top just keep getting bigger. its a monopoly will be hard to turn it all around

 

I didn't know Sears was closing down in the states. Here in Canada, a Walmart type of store called Zellers is closing down. The american company Target bought out the company and will be opening Target stores in Canada. IMO, Target is a much better alternative to Zellers. Sears is still pretty decent as they have some quality stuff.

 

Four Sears stores in North Carolina including one at Oak Hollow Mall will close, according to a partial list of planned Sears and Kmart closings their parent company released today.The other North Caroilna stores that will close are in Morehead City, Rocky Mount and Statesville.Closing dates had not been announced.The list released Thursday accounts for 79 of the 100 to 120 store closings Sears Holdings Corp. had announced.The company did not provide numbers regarding employees affected by the closings.The company is moving away from its practice of propping up "marginally performing" stores in focusing on cash-generating stores.Sears and Kmart merged in 2005.The projected closings represent only about 3 percent of Sears Holdings' U.S. stores

 

You know the interesting thing...it wasnt a bad decision on their part because if they didnt purchase it then kmart wouldve shutdown and many jobs would have been lost. The most interesting thing is that walmart is shutting down so many businesses in the USA and yet it hasnt been reviewed by the government for monopolization!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Walmart shuts down most of the small businesses. Many years ago Kmart used to dominate until Walmart came around, however I dont know who can ever take down Walmart.

I guess Walmart also hurts Sears business since you can buy Treadmills, workout stuff, tools, etc, at Walmart. Bu I dont think I have ever seen appliances as Walmart, so I dont know if Best Buy or someone else is hurting Sears on appliance sales.

 

Either Sears closes money losing stores, or turns them into money making stores, or completely closes down. Sears has had TERRIBLE management for YEARS. They were once the leader. Now they are the footer.

I don't like to see Sears scaling back like this as they do have some good products. However, the junk stores of the world (Walmart, etc) have better management and therefore will survive.
