What do you think of educational sites?

Will they be profitable?? Suppose a site teaching some field to undergraduates. WIll such students click on the ads? I was thinking that such ads might be leading to more professional sites . That the guys and girls won't need to visit. On the other hand , such educational sites might get large number of impressions 'cause of large number of pages and students might visit the same page several times.

I am thinknig of making such a site.. What do u think????

I think educational sites are very ... educational. Sure they can make money, if you get enough traffic. With enough traffic, anything can make money. Some topics make more money per visit than others, but they all can make money.

    traffic is king

THere are MANY companies out there who would love to advertise on a site that is constantly frequented by college studetnns!

if you think you can get adequate traffic, I 'd say go for it

Thanks, but what u mean by VERY EDUCATIONAL. That ppl will go there to just study or read something and won't click ads. I have this thought but just wondering will they get a good revenue? Anyway, best thing to know is to do it:)

There's no 'right' subject to do. It's all in the traffic. No traffic = no revenue.

I have an educational website (in portuguese), its very profitable, good eCPM too. All I need is traffic. But now in the vacation, the visitation drops at least 50% :(

I am expecting about 4000-5000 page impressions a day , may be more , SO i think traffic would be good.

I'll guess that woudl translate to 1500-2500 uniques? If so, you are good to go.

Remember, you have visitors aged 18-28 - thats GOLDEN! Just because the page is about algebra, doesnt mean you have to put ads for calculators there. You could run beer ads, or condom ads - I mean hey, its probably not gonna be the geeky smart kids looking online for answers, since they already know how.

My site was focused on being an educational site for many years. What I found was that the educational resources on my site had a very low CTR and very low eCPM. By changing my focus away from students and towards professionals by providing more resources that would be of interest to professionals, I was able to increase the quality of my advertisers, my CTR and my eCPM.

Another drawback to focusing on educational sites is that traffic levels plunge on these sites during the summer and school holidays.
