What host(s) do you use?

I'm looking into godaddy.com for hosting. I'm still a bit unsure, considering they made it quite hard to find their contact information, and they have no toll free number, etc. There is a free host I've gone with which made me consider using their paid service as well (741.com). Their pretty good if just getting started, and wanna get your domain name hosted for free. All the other ones I've run by aren't that great. As for paid hosts, I sort of like ipower.com. Right now I'm trying to save money, and yet still get a good host, hopefully one within the US, rather than australia.

    >ANYHOW - What host(s) do you guys use for your sites?

Really wouldn't mind finding a site that gave free domain transfers, when you choose to host with them.

I'd love to get a dedicated ip, the lowest price I've found per month was $24 USD. That might help a little down the road. Anyone know a good site for that?

Lastly, I'm also looking for a good "hosting service allowing me to fully (maybe even easily) ecommerce a site," at a great price, that ones a tough one. I've run into problems before, almost ended up spending $600 per month.:( Wasn't a good idea, glad I got outta it. Though, I do need one adventually.:D

I use Futurequest. It offers free transfer and dedicated IP and I think the smallest package comes in at about $8. I´ve been with them for about 3 years now and never had a problem. Customer Service is great too. Even chatty - which is a first :)

I have been using asmallorange right now for about 4 months now. Weekly uptime 98 %( Server check each 5 minutes) . I have around 10 k visitors daily on a shared hosting account. I'm probalby switching to a virtual private server. Great fast support 24/7. ;)

98% uptime is IMHO, not all that great. It means that your site is down for 3.5 hours every week.
Is 98% considered generally good uptime for a site? (Ive had much worse on some of my sites..)

    We are "our own host".
After trying several reputable hosts, I got tired of no SSH access, or no available upgrade, or fees to do a very simple CHOWN... We decided to lease root servers and to admin them ourselves.

And we are quite very happy with them. First we don't have to share resources with 5,934 other sites, we don't get s#$%^&d when a guru uses a cron every second or with open SMTP or...

To make you dream, we have 2 Fedora boxes each are dual 3GHz with 1Gb memory, 140Gb HD (not SCSI - too expensive) and 1,500Gb of monthly BW not including FTP Backup.

I use midphase.com (Dan is easy to work with and a phone call away) for two of my accounts, then I have some other sites on a reseller account with dathorn.com...they have been good hosts, but a little common courtesy goes a long ways :)

you can also try thrillhost.com for reseller packages, they are owned by midphase.

    Varhosting.net

Great guys over there. Customer service is awesome. They will transfer all your sites to them, and with there reseller account you can have many many sites and domains. Had alot of bad hosts in the past but varhosting.net really seems to be high class.
