Unless you buy dedicated hosting (expensive), they are both shared hosting plans.

WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS) and by saying "WordPress Hosting" someone either means "a web hosting service for WordPress CMS" or just uses "Wordpress Hosting" as a buzzword. Shared Hosting means Virtual Hosting. It is a service niche in the web hosting industry, where a physical or virtualized server is decided into virtual directories and each directory works as separate hosting account. All account shared the resounds of the underlying server, where the terms "Shared" comes from. I hope that his helps!

Well, Wordpress Hosting is just a name given to ANY hosting that is having Wordpress Installed.
Since Wordpress can be installed over Shared / VPS or Dedicated, the only difference you will find is the performace.

However, some companies have launched Special Shared Plans with dedicated/better resources like RAM/CPU Utlization and rebranded it as "WordPress Hosting". This may also include Management of your wordpress installation, and helping you with the same.

If you are looking for Best performance and need wordpress isntalled, try WordPress hosting.

    They both are shared hosting.
The only basic difference is Wordpress hosting only supports wordpress theme websites where as Shared hosting supports all websites.
It also depends on the hosting providers. Some providers may optimize wordpress hosting for the customers, so check all the terms and conditions before selecting one among them.

WordPress hosting is specially developed for WordPress users. It caters you with the control panel that allows users to manage several customizable WordPress themes and plugins and it also allows anyone to add content and manage website's appearance and function relatively easily, though you don't have any experience of website design and development.

Shared hosting doesn't cater you with such features. In shared hosting your website is hosted on a server where even other websites are hosted. The resources on shared server get divided among the websites. It means if there is high traffic on some website, your site will also experience load and there will be increase in loading time. It is specially preferred by small businesses.

    Different types of hosting
    1. Shared
    2. Reseller
    3. VPS (Virtual Private Server)
    4. Dedicated Server
    5. Cloudbased
    6. Colocation
    7. Self Service
    8. Managed Wordpress

Wordpress hosting is tailored specifically for hosting websites running on Wordpress.

Sharedhosting is just a type of hosting where your site "shares" resources with other sites on the same server.

Some WordPress managed hosting platforms have NGINX, Varnish Cache, & Redis installed for better performance over the LAMP configuration standard on most shared hosting plans. WordPress hosting plans also include auto-installers, WP-CLI, staging environments, & security enhancements like WAF protection.

Wordpress hosting can refer to an specialized hosting service to offer a better hosting just for wordpress, which can include compression, more CPU, more bandwidth, etc.

There are some good answers here.... Wordpress is a content management system. Your hosting is different... Your hosting can be on a shared server or dedicated server. When you say wordpress hosting it simply means you are using Wordpress platform to host your content. Hope this helps.

This is the most informative answer in this thread and one can follow these recommendations without any fear. I used to work on the WordPress-based project too and here is the hosting I've chosen.

in most cases there is no difference. Some host will put wordpress and shared hosting accounts on the same server and call the wordpress one optimized for wordpress and charge more when really there is nothing different done.

Then you have just a hand full of host that really do setup a server dedicated to wordpress hosting.

To be honest any shared hosting account should be fine for your needs. Just make sure you keep your stuff updated.

    Both are Shared account only.
Shared hosting supports all types of websites while Wordpress hosting only supports website designed in wordpress.
There also a Managed Wordpress Hosting wherein the hosting provider will optimize the website for you and handle all the technicalities involved.

They're basically very similar, however, WordPress hosting is better optimized for WordPress and some of the most popular WordPress plugins like JetPack.

Also, more often than not, WordPress hosting usually employs staff that are familiar working with WordPress or specialise in it.

Not always the case as I feel, more so now especially, most hosts are just throwing the term 'WordPress Hosting' onto their shared plans for marketing purposes but just add a premium price on it, however, websites like WPEngine which was one of the first specialised hosts to offer WordPress hosting, do actually hire staff who known WordPress really, really well and can help you and give you a better customer service experience more so than a generalised host.

If you're fairly clued up when it comes to server management, coding, programming etc and have some of these skills, you'll almost always be better off on a shared account. I think it's more marketed at people who will need some extra help and support.

Its completely depands on hosting service provider ,how they configure their server for WordPress and Shared hosting. Both are almost same configaration but daffenatly different for CMS WordPress, Which already mentioned
