What is the best script for making a news website

I want to make a news website but am fed up of using wordpress... The damn script has to be updated so often I can hardly focus :p

I also noticed that if you want to make a REAL NEWS website that gets featured in Google News it requires some specific parameters such as unique codes in the URL (3 digits minimum to be exact)... So Ive checked out some scripts..

This one looks great, any feedback on it?

    Any other recommendations?

Check out joomla. Joomlart.com makes a couple great news templates called Teline and Teline II.

NPR.org runs on Drupal, I think the WSJ does too, but I don't think it's been proven.

I know that you mentioned that you are tired of Wordpress, but trust me it is the most friendliest SEO script for a site type you are looking to create. Simply find a good template and you are set. Go to google and type Revolution Magazine Theme and see what comes up.

Wordpress is where its at.... Revolution theme is now open source and free. Justin Tadlock is doing some really slick work as well http://themehybrid.com/

Joomla is for noobs. Drupal is quite good but I am not really a fan of that stuff.

I love MODx - most powerful and easy to use framework. The more I use it the more I love it!

Joomla is too bloated and its not secure enough for a serious commercial site. Do a search of digital point for joomla hacked and see how many results come back. Notice how everyone is giving examples of the types of sites that run drupal, but I do not see a large commercial site running joomla listed so far.

Examples of "my joomla site has been hacked" threads:

    Joomla hacked - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1063009
    Joomla hacked -http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=414300
    Joomla hacked - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1033294
    Joomla hacked - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=998522
    Joomla hacked - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1000296

If you want a commercial grade site, go with commercial grade software. And if you ever decide to plug a forum into your site, you should consider full integration, not a bridge. This also rules out joomla, because commercial grade forums will not integrate with it.

    subdreamer - http://www.subdreamer.com/

PHPCow - http://www.phpcow.com/ - but I have heard mixed review of this CMS.

    Dolphin CMS - http://www.boonex.com/

Express Engine - http://expressionengine.com/ - This company has their own forum module that plugs into the site.

Here is a list of some CMSs, but its not a whole list - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_content_management_systems. Think about what you want do not, not just right now, but in the future.

I second Drupal for the kind of website you want to make. Look at these Drupal run news websites:

The New York Observer - http://www.observer.com/
    The Onion - http://www.theonion.com/content/index

Not sure about wall street journal but as you can see it could easily be based on Drupal, but I think they use their own inhouse CMS

If you are looking to build a pretty basic website then by far weebly.com is the fastest way to put together some content. They don't have to many options but like I said, if you want basic and you want it fast, then use them.

You get 2 free sites on their server or you can pay like $4 a month and build up to 10 sites.
