    Hello People

    I am aware of XML sitemaps that it has to be submitted to Google/webmaster but I do not get what is the purpose of HTML sitemap? and why do people create it?

    It's very useful to have a sitemap both for the users to find their way around your website, and for the search engines to easier index your content.

    Think of it from your perspective: if you access a very big website you have 2 options: Search box and Sitemap. If the search box doesn't prove to be useful for what you're searching on that site, accessing the sitemap and seeing all it's structure can be a very big help to find your way around it.

    HTML sitemap is used to list all hyperlinks or the link of all pages of website into a single page. These hyperlinks are normally listed hierarchically and they may provide description for each link. To adding HTML sitemap to your website will help your visitors navigate and find information easily. So HTML sitemap is mainly created for humans. Although a HTML sitemap is created for your visitors, indexing bot such as Googlebot might have a better chance to crawl your first-time-missed links again since all the files are well put together in your sitemap page.

    Html sitemaps are built for the site visitor help. Hence it contains all the links of the website so that user can understand the structure of the website and navigate easily. The best place for showing the html sitemap is on the 404 error page. If any user see the 404 error page then this html sitemap will help user to navigate to another location of the website that he or she will like to go.

    I'll add another purpose of an HTML Sitemap - there are many search engines and not all of them are as clever as Google is when it comes to detecting your site structure. An HTML Sitemap helps these less advanced search engines discover your content.

    I got the answer from another site here, this may help you a bit

    Sitemaps have 3 purposes.
    1. Visual Sitemaps for Project Planning / Communication
    2. HTML for website visitors
    3. XML sitemaps for search engines
    If you use a sitemap generator like DYNO Mapper (https://dynomapper.com), it will create a sitemap for your website for all of the above situations and will publish using the best practices outlined in http://www.sitemaps.org. You can create a sitemap using the sitemap editor or you can create a sitemap by just entering a URL. The sitemap generator will get all the information and format it so it can be submitted to your search engines, placed on your website for users, or use the shareable sitemap for collaboration.
