    what is the reason behind to keep open old threads on dp? everytime when i check popular threads most of them are years old even 4 years old. i think there is no reason to keep them open .. am i right ?

    I agree but.... if the thread has been active for all that time I say keep it going. What bothers me is when the thread has been dead for 3 or 4 years, then some newbie brings it back to life with a pointless comment just to increase his/her post count.

    I mean I honestly see your point there. I don't know why people would want to bring back old treads. Sometimes it just doesn't make much sense. I get that many you bring one back that at the latest here was a year old, but four years old just seems like too much to me. I think at that point, it's just not necessary.

    I also agreed with the participants of these threads. I don't know what the reason behind this. I often note that the posts are so old. And some the newest post i found on the last pages. I think the function is based on the popularity of the thread. If people do reply contineoulsy on the same thread. Or if the post is really useful for every one. For example a saw i thread on first page "do you like winter" (2011) and also another thread is "what is your favorite ice cream flavor" (2012). Its obvious there is not any benefit to ask this question, but people shown their interest in it, specially new comers.
