    Personally, I try to keep the width at 800px max.
    The height should look in proportion and there is a percentage many people use. I think it's 4:3

    100px high for the most part, then have a content wrapper width of say 900-1100px

    you want to design your header to keep in mind that you want most of your important information above the fold... it can be as big or as small as you like... just make sure you display all the pertinent information.

    I used 800 x 300 px for my header.

    FYI, you can play with the shape of your header, be creative !

    A good size for me is 800 x 120 or 850 x 190 (Although I prefer the latter). It makes it nice and big and I can easily resize it a bit smaller to fit my needs.

    i thought universal was 468x60 - but I myself use a lot of 720x90 header leader boad sized ads. Helps on CTR.
