What Social Networks do College Students Use?

Discussion in 'Social Networks' started by DJDeWitt, Jun 21, 2012.

I am struggling to find any tangible data on the quantity of social networks college students are (A) registered on, and (B) Actively Engaged in.

For example, I would imagine that a majority of college students would be active on, say, Facebook and Twitter. Beyond that, I would imagine they would be registered on something like LinkedIn or Google+, but they wouldn't be active on those sites for reasons such as LinkedIn not being a regular social connector and Google+ being overkill for other platforms they're engaged on.

If anyone has any ideas or information on the average number of social networks college students are (A) registered on, and (B) actively engaged on, I would greatly appreciate it. As far as I can tell, no one has explicitly done this sort of study, which is focused on seeing how many "virtual identities" college students are consistently maintaining through various social media platforms.

it is the facebook which is popular among the students for the social networking.
LinkedIn is for professional networking and twitter is for microblogging.
Google+ is slowly becoming a forum for bloggers to discuss various things

Thanks everyone, I was of similar opinion to all of you but was struggling to find hard data. A great niche to fill for any researchers out there!

I don't know the situation of your country. In my country what we like to use is Facebook. We have different groups for colleges and schools that are updated regularly and we can easily stay on touch. If that is not available where you are now, just start creating group with your college mates.

Faceboook without a doubt is the most common social network being used by college students. Same with high schools etc... So many of them use it nowadays.

A lot of my classmates use Twitter a lot more than Facebook. Those serious about finding good jobs also use LinkedIn.
