What Software to use to create a news site?

    Hey Guys,

I'm wondering if you could give me some advice on what software to use to create a news site. It should be something like HuffingtonPost. So it needs the ability to host a lot of users that create news, that can comment on news etc.

Do you think Joomla would be capable of doing this stuff or maybe a customized wordpress?

    Thanks in advance!

If you want to expand the site to a grand size then I'll recommend Drupal.
If its a small website (around 100 users) then use Wordpress, its a good software for SEO purpose.
    I never used joomla :(

Joomla, drupal and wordpress can all do it. I always use Wordpress because it is easy to use and very SEO friendly. It's taxonomy functionality is now excellent and can create a good news site. Of course, before using any CMS you will need to know how to create/customize a theme or pay someone to do it for you.

Depending on the scale, I usually end up creating my own CMS based off of a framework I am developing now. If a forum is integrated, I usually start from phpBB's framework and build off from there.

zhoom's advice is very good. I would also add Alfresco solution.

There are many excellent news themes available for Wordpress. That is where I would start. I would first start with trying out some of the free themes since many of the premium themes often do not work as advertised. News themes can be complicated and introduce many opportunities for bugs. Check out forums to find out which news themes are being used by other large users since these are most likely to be more reliable and stable.

If it "needs the ability to host a lot of users that create news" .. then Drupal would be the best answer for you, i think.
