What to do if a Client Does Not pay for Online Services?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by webmaster-32B2, Apr 19, 2010.

    Hi,

Recently I offered some services to a foreign client. He represents a software company and paid me only 40% of the total project cost.

Now the project has been finished but he still not paid me my due amount.

I sent him many emails and asked for my payment and every time he says that his account department is processing the payment and I will receive it soon.

I am sick of this issue.

Are there any online authorities whom we can complaint for the frauds?

Can anyone tell me please how to deal with this client?

Should I wait more or what else to do?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Apart from the obvious such as whether it is worth pursuing (costs to do that versus money owed) it will largely depend on where you are based and where your client is based. For any sort of enforceable court action you would need to take it in the country they were based in. If they are based in a country with a strong legal system then you could employ the services of a debt collection agency to attempt to collect the money for you, or enagage a local solicitor to pursue the money owed. It will not be free, but it won't necessarily cost that much if the amount owed is worth pursuing and if you are succesful you may be able to re-claim the costs. If you engage a local solicitor you will not need to attend in person.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually the client is based in another country.

They have a big website with offices/representatives in 5-6 other countries.

Client demanded to send all the reports first they will will pay me but since I have sent him the reports they are not paying me.

Obviously the reports have been approved that their account department will issue the payment soon.

I received previous two payments through PayPal. Can I file a PayPal dispute against them?

    Any other suggestions please?

    Regards
    WM

The moral of the story is - ask for all the money up front so that you don't end up covering his costs. I advise waiting another few days, then emailing back again. Legally, I don't know what you can do as he/she is foreign.

Why don't you call to their HQ?
The second way to deal with is don't sent him the completed design.

I would move on. The moral of this story is . . . don't extend credit if you don't know who you're dealing with. It will turn out to be a cheap lesson if you learn anything from it.

You can try to file a dispute. But I dont know how sure it will work because there have been a lot of unresolved issue with paypal. Next time dont offer your services to people you dont really know. Or at least have some site to back up on you. Apply in true freelance sites like odesk or getafreelancer so you can have someone you can ask for help in case of this incidents.

I agree that. Moreover If your last 40% payment was made using Paypal, then You can make a dispute on that payment now. The reason is - you want a full payment for your job. Then both party will have the chance to talk about that service in the PayPal resolution center. Using the Resolution Center it is easy – PayPal guides you through the dispute process step-by-step. Thanks

To avoid this kind of occurs every one should take escrow payment from buyers. PayPal, Moneybookers and other faithful major company giving escrow payment system to avoid doubt or quarrel .
