Quality of the content is the first thing you need to think about. It needs to be updated regularly, it needs to be interesting, valuable, relevant and informative. Now, some people prefer videos, among other things because it just goes faster than reading, but you will always have those who love to commit their time to something they like just because it's enjoyable, interesting, informative, because it offers some value. So, invest in both, I'd say.

I say do BOTH for SEO
use the anotation from the video
video lets people stay longer on your page,
    the article is the content/keywords

what is the goal of your page ?

Articles and whiteboard videos both have their own unique advantages.

However, for SEO - you're forgetting one extremely effective tool...

    INFOGRAPHICS!

    No, I don't mean from Fiverr :D

I mean high quality and unique infographics.

Expect to spend between $100 - $300 on a really good infographic.

By doing this properly, you can net some AWESOME backlinks :D

The videos need to be extremely well done for conversions. You should always be releasing articles on your site as well. At least one a week to keep your site relevant with SE's. Share your content and build those social signals because unfortunately it's not a one or the other thing with multimedia marketing, it's a little bit of everything.

Videos say lot more words than articles and graphical presentation in them helps. Use articles with Graphics and they will also help with keeping users engaged.

I don't think there's a particular form of content that stands out above the others, as only one on its own will never be as strong as a combination of several. Your article or video may be great but it can always be improved with the addition of the other. Same goes for imagery, infographics, slideshows, etc...

Only the combination of these two marketing tools can be effective. Their comparison is like pointless dispute about what is better for human - water or food.
