What works best .com or .com.au?

    Hi all
I was wondering what would be more benifitial. I have a .com.au finance website, but i have just purchased a .com as well and will basically copy my .com.au website to the .com name.

Could i expect to get better traffic etc and mor money with adsense? I realise this is a strange question, but I seem to have hit a plateau with my .com.au website.

I dont think domain name will affect your earnings. Cpc depends on traffic source mostly, and you will have to move up your new domain name in serps to get high payouts.

ads are geo targeted!. ie, users in US will see different ad's compared to users in australia.

Depends on the users. domain should not make a difference.

It will probably not affect your earnings but go with the .com name if you have the choice (which you do).

there shud be no argument, .com(first level domain) pays more and works best than .com.au (second level domain). Search engines priority goes for .com as fas as i know

com.au is for australia, and yes, it is a country code, so the search could be very geographically related. Your information is probably best seen in Australia, Sidney, Perth, over there! This is a tough one, but if I did determine that a permanent change was eminent, I would create a brand new site in my server under the com. Then I would add a 301 redirect in my htaccess file, and 301 redirect everything to the www version of the com. (that is the one I pick anyway. I am not here to fool google on anything. That is their first choice unless otherwise instructed.) Then take everything off your site to a folder on your computer through an FTP program, Then push it all to the new domain. Once you see it is all working well and are sure you will not crash when you pull the switch, then shut down the old site name, and add that .com.au as a domain alias to your new com. Google will take all page rank and links move it to the new com, and you can grow from there. All inbound links to your old site will now come to your new com version and also the accompanying page rank too!

Make sure you have your databases for photo galleries, blogs, and test everything thoroughly on the new com before shutting down the old site and moving it to the new one. One word of caution, you might be seeing a different market audience. In the US, you might have more competition and might need to work a lot more at getting to the top of search engines. Look for your keywords in Google and do you come up? You can check your search stats on your server showing keywords used to find you, and if they are the ones you want. (get your stats page from your website host. He will give it to you)

One other thing, your page position that you see might burp. When I move or do a new site, I see it high because of a well built seo site. Then it is gone for a little while, then it comes back to where it was. Have no fear, but can possibly show a burp in new searches.

    As always, GOOD LUCK!

it's up's to your choice like if your business have limitation of Services like your services only available in Australia then .com.au is fine but your services spared around the Globe then .com is the best and it's also fetched the direct visits also.
Search Engine Preferred the .com in the priority of Search Results if domain like .co.in, .co.au, .info, .us etc must be work harder to achieve good SERPS Ranking.

If you want to brand yourself if oz, then .com.au may be for you. But if it's something that pppl worldwide can use, like info, then i would stick to .com
