What features would you want in a simple to use admin panel/backend script?
This is mainly for multi admin sites, but I would also like ot add single admin features.
Intergration to current websites is going to be a jey feature

Extensibility. A simple way of adding mods/plugins, like vBulletin for example has it.

yes it is a bit too heavy and takes some time and effort but in the end once you learn it its very good! So if you design an easier thing for biginners that will be useful!

A good interface is a start. I would like to see a tool that lets you organize and sort your data, it helps me know what my site consists (content wise.)

IMO Joomla has this down quite well. If i were you i would see where they fall short and improve upon it.
