What's the best CMS for noobs?

Discussion in 'Content Management' started by 993ti, Jun 29, 2007.

A friend of mine wants a new site for his rallyteam.
He would like to add reports, images and other simple things.
I'm currently trying Joomla but i noticed that it would be too hard for him to add stories and other things.
So, what's a good and easy CMS that still looks good but simple enough to add pages, images etc.?
    Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at drupal? Highly supported by developers and very easy to set up and add content

Drupal is pretty good, but I really would not recommend it to anyone new to working with a CMS. Check opensourcecms.com, give them all a try. The easiest I've thought were :

    CMS Made Simple
    Joomla/Mambo
    Xoops

The terminology when I was new to CMS a few years ago threw me off alot. I didn't know what blocks were, then other CMS's like Joomla use Modules differently... it's a mess. Find a reputable CMS and stick with it. You will be happy in the end like most everyone else you see posting in support of their favorite CMS ;)

Wordpress is okay - but a CMS like e107 is pretty decent when it comes to the above, and the module are in the core, so you don't have to worry about security updates as much and updating problems.

You can't get any easier than wordpress and it can be modified for sites other than blogs.

Joomla is very powerful and very easy to use after about an hour or so of messing around in which it feels a bit tough.

Wordpress is the best for that I think, there's way to customize it so it won't really look like a blog...don't throw yourself in learning a big CMS if you want to use it only once..

    Hi,

I would recommend Wordpress for its reliability, excellent anti-spam support, and large library of plug-and-play themes.

I think for being user friendly WordPress beats Drupal, but I think Drupal will give your friend more flexibility in the future.

I'm going to cast my vote for CMS made simple.

I was doing a site for a group of people with limited computer skills. I tried some other CMSes and they just could not get it. After setting them up with CMS made simple they were finally able to get to work and put up their site pages.

Well wordpress is pretty simple to use, but e107 and mambo/joomla are more versatile.

I think that joomla is the next step after wordpress. That's why beginners should start with wordpress for sure.

I'd suggest Wordpress. It's super easy to use - yet looks good enough for a project like your friend's one :)

CMS made simple is good but if you install some components you could start to get problems, I have 3 sites based on this Cms and one site is getting errors.
