One Hurt, Two Arrested in Drill Team Brawl

WICHITA, Kan. - One person required stitches and a mother and son were arrested after two drill teams began brawling during an impromptu "dance off," Wichita police said.

"This is a whole new arena" of crime, said Wichita police Lt. Jeff Easter.

The Dynamic Steppers, a Wichita drill team, were practicing routines Saturday night when members of another drill team, the White Tigers, showed up and challenged the others to a "dance-off," police said.

This incident really gives a black eye to the art of competitive dancing. For decades competitive dancing has been used to solve problems without using violence. It really makes me sad to see stuff like this. I, and thousands of others like me, have spent our entire life trying to stop violence with dance.

I could see the White Tigers doing something like this, but I was completely shocked to read that the Dynamic Steppers would be involved in something like this. They are above it.

A few months ago my squad, Hot Steppers, and I were involved in a dance off. Some one threw a piece of ice and Jamal was doing a 360 twist and stepped on it. If I hadn’t caught him, he might have sprained an ankle or worse. Competitive dancing is getting too dangerous. After reading this I think I’m going to get out of the game.
