    I needed that initial boost of inbound links to my site, in order to get into the SERPs and get some natural links.

    The answer for me was directory submissions. This was before the big article submission craze. No one wanted to trade links with me, as I had no useful PR.

    Getting more traffic!!

    Planning out the best, most effective way to use my marketing budget.

    I have found that reading books on the subject (I often spend hours at the bookstore on weekends), and visiting forums such as this one have been extremely helpful.

    My problem was figuring out why a piece of text linked to a page.. how it moved from text to page... that was 6 years ago. Im glad I decided to read a book.

    My biggest problem was the lack of paypal and a real CC (VISA or AMEX). Now I have AMEX and paypal but I'm on the send only list and that is my biggest problem, it kill a lot of opportunities for me...

    The problem is getting the creativity to write original content. And getting backlinks.

    New people as lucky because a 1 day site can start getting backlinks and traffic immediately through Digg.
