I'm a bit different from most people... I've lived all over the place - migrating like a duck for most of my life.

I lived in Minnesota, Hawaii, All over Vegas, Sweden, Wisconson, Fresno, Orange County, Riverside County, Chico, Tahoe, Boston, Monterrey Mexico, and Arizona (I think that's it). In all but one of those places I've had at least two different residences.

Plus I've put in about a million flying miles in the last decade for work - all over the country sometimes a few times a week, but lately just a couple of times a month.

Most people live in or around the same area for most of their lives. Any other people out there with a long list of residences? Any other commiserating road warriors out there?

    San Diego (that's it).

I've been to 41 states (traveling for work), if that counts for anything.

Friesland (Holland), then London. Flying back and forth every couple of weeks (thanks EasyJet). Next place will be Mediteranian. Spain probably. Kroatia perhaps.

I know... there are very few places I've been to that I wasn't glad to be home from (although there are a few places I would move to if I needed to).

You don't even want to have this argument with me. :) Personally, if I accidentally met a chick in PB somehow, I probably would never talk to her again simply because I *did* meet her in PB. :)

Actually I never met anyone from Holland before... But all I know is Eastern European chicks (Czech, Polish, Romanian, Hungarian, Russian [which my last girlfriend is from], etc.) are hot. Makes me want to buy a castle somewhere in Eastern Europe. Also, every Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian girl I've met is good looking too.

Most of my moves were when I was younger due to my Mom just up and deciding that she wanted to move. After a while I thought the feds were after us or something :). It's no fun as a kid meeting new people every year, but I've had a very full life due to the moves. Not too many kids get to live in Europe and see all the museums and history that is there. Now that I have kids I want to stabilize in one town and owning my own house goes a lot in that direction, but I still have at least two moves in mind. First I want to move back to Orange County, but the house will have to be very expensive since now I live in a huge house in the boonies. Second is moving back to Minnesota sometime before I retire. It's not a place that people typically WANT to move to (especially from California), but I love the people, the snow, and the Vikings. Things are so much simpler out there, but I have to stay in California until I can talk my wife into the move - which will take years. She's already been out to football games with me when the weather was below zero without any snow. If she sees a blizzard out there it will be a huge setback :).

As an adult, I've moved mainly because I could in my early 20's. Tahoe was a blast. I've also moved for work. I built the cable modem provisioning systems and some 9-1-1 interfaces and digital phone provisioning systems for AT&T that took me a little over a year in Boston so I just grabbed a place out there and came back to California on the weekends. I built AxTel (literally the whole company - from sales systems to phone provisioning systems, to management systems, etc.) in Monterrey, Mexico a few years ago, and I pretty much lived in a Hotel there for the duration, again flying back to California when I could, but I spent more weekends there. It's a whole different side of Mexico I never really knew about. Mostly I build and update help desks, asset management systems, and change management systems now and clients that will pay are all over the place so I just fly to where the work is. Usually for a new project I'm there full time for a few months, but for existing projects that I support or update I end up telecommuting a lot because they have a good feel for my work ethic already. One of my customers was just selected as the best help desk in the world by the Help Desk Institute.
