Where to put google ads on forum site?

Hi,

I'd like to know : where, what type and what color should I choose to put the ads on forum site?

As of now I only put 468x60 on the top of the forum. I really don't have any idea what's the best combination.

I think you can get some plugins which will split the top 3 or 4 posts up allowing you to put adsense in between posts, for instance, now I have posted it is joined onto the bottom of yours, whereas using a splitter thingymajig you will have an adsense banner/block or whichever you choose between your initial post, mine, and mine and the following etc until you have used up your 3 blocks.

Not everybody reads all the way to the bottom of a thread, bare in mind, so having an adsense advert at the top is always going to give you the most exposure.

 

One link-element between the first and second post (like in DP) seems like a good idea to me. Studying what DP does, should give you other ideas as well.

I already installed a plugin to manage ads and it has quite a lot of feature including putting ads on top and bottom of the site, between post and left/right skyscraper.

So which one is better, text or link ads? Also, should they match the site color? Cause I see DP putting a contrast color for the top ads.
