Where to sell a site?

Where do the big shots hang around? I have had a tough time selling my sites because most of them are very expensive.

Sitepoint sucks, no one buys sites there any more, namepros shares the same users from dnforum, ebay is a waste of time... any other suggestions? I have a nice small network I'm selling which earns average of $500 per month so I don't want to waste my time with tire kickers, I'm looking for people that can pay 9 or 10k for these sites

I made one post at site point and sold a site through PM for 25K. The big dogs eat there just not as much as they use to. :)

Really? I have seen most of the people there offering 500 bucks for sites that earn $300 per month...

But I guess I should give it a shot

Do let me know if you find out, Fryman. One thing I noticed about dnforum, etc is the lack of understanding in the value of domain names which are good for search engines and optimization.

Have you looked at Afternic.com and the new offering from GoDaddy - TLDAM.com?

Afternic, now that's a good idea, I'll take a look over there

Dnforum is more of a reseller market. Domains aren't really appraised for their seo value or potential, they just use the standard criteria of length, keywords, TLD, etc.

It is a good place to sell websites, I have seen big sites sold there, but it sure is difficult to find a good buyer. I used to know a few people over there that were always fishing for expensive sites, pitty they sudenly vanished.

Funny how so many people's perception of the same forums can be "so different."

    My experience:

NamePros - AWESOME ADMIN/MODS, friendly place, several smaller deals done.
DNForum - more serious domainers, ADMIN seems "ok," 2 larger deals done in RECORD TIME!
    SitePoint - I don't use it.
    DigitalPoint - A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! ;-)

Of course, many times... it boils down to "luck and timing" just like real life.

My guess: you're as likely to sell your site(s) at DNFORUM as anywhere else?

    GOOD LUCK,

What kind of site was this if you dont mind me asking and what monthly income did it generate. I think most people estimate sites based on 12 months revenue.

I been wondering the same thing. I want to sell one of my sites, but I think its worth about $300,000. I was going to test it on ebay just to see what happens, but I think something more stable is in order for such a site.

If you're talking serious sites- you may consider using a business broker like ebizbrokers.com (I plan on using them for my business at the end of August).

That said, if you've got real sites making real money, and you want to sell, PM me first :)
