Even though Drupal won the the 2008 overall best open source CMS I wanted to see what webmasters here think.
I've made 2 options for each CMS so we can get an insight on why people might chose one over the other so make sure you select the correct one.

Not used either, but after researching for the past few days am going to set up a site this week with Joomla as it seems the better option for me and has a good community. The only downside I have heard is that it can be quite difficult to create your own skin for the site.

Even though joomla is popular, is it not a very secure platform. If you want your site to be secure and stable, go with drupal.

interesting results so far.. it seems most people are sticking with either CMS from experience, i'd love to know what that is..

This might be true but the truth is most people tend to do with what ever works for them and bypass security issues a CMS might have until they get hacked :)

I prefer drupal, Drupal is developer friendly CMS. if you are a developer you will find it quite easy to extend. the code is really clean and well structure. Drupal also has strong community, I accept, Joomla has very good templates available. However it's changing, lots of good templates are coming up for drupal too.

Drupal also won 2008 Best PHP Open Source Content Management System , here the complete result

If you search it you'll find joomla.org has been hacked more than 2 times

Use drupal if you can make/customize modules. Use joomla if you are a noob like me

Use drupal if you are a noob but will not take your site past existing modules

I vote also for Drupal. As daringtakers said it is the most developerfriendly CMS I know. Clean structured Code with good possibilitys to extend. Also far more Secure than the other ones.
The Community is also very supportive and you have lot of modules to choose from.

You can start very fast, only with adding the modules you need and expand it step by step as you get used to the concepts of Drupal.

Joomla and Wordpress are good too but far not as secure and clean structured as Drupal.

Drupal is easy to use. The integrated translation/internationalization is pure gold for anyone not in the US.

I've tried Joomla, and I kinda like it but not as much as I do WordPress. However, I heard Drupal is pretty lean and mean, so I'm going to take a shot at it soon.
