How is it not a CMS? WordPress fulfills every definition of a content management system, and some. Don't let it's blog branding confuse you. With plugins and add-ons, WordPress can easily be rigged to perform as any kind of site.

    My votes for WordPress.

I guess it all comes down to a metter of opinion really but, in my opinion, Wordpress is best for straight out of the box. You can do some editing to Joomla that can make it an SEO powerhouse but, straight out of the box it's Wordpress for sure!

Since there is no universally accepted definition of a Content Management System, any application that manages content can be considered a CMS. WordPress is an extensible CMS that contains quite a bit of functionality (e.g. blog, video sites, social networking, image sites, etc.) within its framework. The framework may not be as flexible as other frameworks, but there are advantages to WordPress's approach, e.g stability, reliability, ease-of-installation, ease-of-use, backward compatibility between versions, etc.

I have looked at other packages going up and down the chain in flexibility and stability, and I believe WordPress is an excellent blend. Personally, if I can't do it with WordPress, I would probably build it from scratch because I simply do not trust the other packages.

As far as SEO is concerned, it is very complicated nowadays because Google's algorithms have become very sophisticated and uses many inputs including actual traffic metrics. For this reason, I use plugins on my blog that increase the amount of time a visitor spends on my site (e.g. Popular Posts, Related Posts, etc.) as well as increase load time speeds. Here is a complete list of plugins that I use:

22 Best Must Have WordPress Plugins

I also have a post on SEO that might be interesting since I talk about how Google now utilizes a wide variety of visitor traffic metrics to make judgments about SERP:

    Best Google SEO Checklist

I hope these are useful posts.

WordPress is the best solution for that. Joomla has a massive array of superior design features and components that not only make it look better than WordPress allow you to extend and grow your site more.

Wordpress is not an CMS, but with it's functionality, it can be considered as one. It's good for SEO though

    Wordpress, hands down.

It's not a CMS though. Yeah, it can be turned into one, but right out of the box, it's not. Even Matt says this.

You can easily optimise WordPress site to achieve the ranking your looking for, for your targeted keywords. WordPress offers a wide range of SEO tools, which can help you optimize all the aspects of the site, from Meta Details to even creating an automatic site map.
Wordpresss is also built in a way that its Search engine friendly, at the end of the day Search engines like Wordpress and Wordpress like Search Engines.

OUt of the box, I've had great luck with wordpress, but in the end Google doesn't care (or even know) what CSM you are using. You can have Joomla output exactly the same HTML as WP. It's more of a developer thing - one has to know how to optimize for SEO purposes.
