Which CMS is the best for?

a static business site.

I do not need a blog. I need to create several simple websites with new designs for text and images only. I do not need ecommerce or any clever applications.

I want to create pages, add content, build the site menu etc as easily as possible. It should have a few blocks that are includes on all pages. I need the sites designing and placed on our servers.

Which CMS do you recommend for this? What is the most simple solution?

 

Assuming you know PHP and are a developer type, I would go with TextPattern.
If you need something a little more user friendly, go with Wordpress.
If you want something with a little more flexibilty and power, go with Joomla/Drupal.

 

I'd go with Joomla / Mambo, because it's simple enough for the beginning and flexible and scalable enough if you decide to develop your website later.

Also, there are thousands of free templates for Joomla/Mambo that you can choose from ...

 

I am not a developer type. I get sites designed and installed by others. I like to manage my own sites though. I add the pages, content etc. I do not need or want to keep bothering the developer. Once installed i try to go it alone.

The reason behind my question is that a friend wants some assistance with a site. I know HTML etc and have basic knowledge. I have used drupal succesfully on several sites and have no problems adding html as needed. They, however, do not know a lot about building a site, so I was hoping to find the best solution for a relative newbie to websites.

Joomla looks OK to me. Why do people rave about Wordpress?

 

If you are into blog, then go for wordpress which is not your preference..I've designed websites using JOOMLA and so far it's ok.
But to edit the html directly is not recommended in JOOMLA unless you know what are you doing..

 

Wordpress is perfect for blogging.. thatz why..

Is JOOMLA WYSIWYG?

 

You can say it is. It's got a visual HTML editor so all you need to do is to add text, pics, etc. without much HTML knowledge...

 

JOOMLA is WYSIWYG friendly but unfortunatelly the you can't make a 'copy paste' task from Word directly to your JOOMLA, or else you'll get a lot of unwanted characters published together with your content.

However, that's not the main issues if you know the trick. kmofo is right, not HTML knowledge required to add new content

 

I would recommend Expression Engine. The software is high class, light weight and very powerful. Its much faster then any of the softwares above.

Also another cms I like was interactivetools.com Article manager 2. One of the fastest CMSs around besides Movable Type.

 

I would recommened Website Publisher ( you can found at interspire.com ). In my opinion, it's wonderful

 

WordPress although it's a blogger's platform.
Why?
Because it's a user- and SEO-friendly CMS and it's simple to integrate your design with WP

 

go with wordpress for these simple requirements. if you need more, go to drupal.

 

I'm using joomla for all of my sites. I tried WP and Drupal, but Joomla it's the best (for me). I think you will be satisfied using Joomla!

Depends what you want to do, I use to use Joomla, but the lack of a competent SEO option that's free turned me off of it, plus the W3C compliance was often horrible and I had some slow pageload times, If you don't mind some tweaking why not use Wordpress as a CMS solution, I use it for all of my needs and program what I need to change, its fast, offers the best SEO around, and is easy to learn with thousands of free plugins and templates to help you along the way.

 

How easy is Joomla for someone who has never designed a site before?

I need to make a simple site for my business but hoped to find something that had easy to alter templates etc.

Also, any suggestions on who is the best to host the site? Cheap and easy with plenty of email addresses! And I assume the hosing site would need to enable me to upload Joomla to it???
