Which CMS is the Best?

Sorry guys after doing extensive research on the industry I have found that wordpress isn't a CMS at all. It is simply a blogging platform. People for some reason mistake it for a CMS for whatever reason. I went along with the charade because I didn't know any better. But now that I know better I am removing it off the list. Unfortunately I cannot edit the OP.

With that in mind then, which of the following list is the best CMS? i.e. free open full featured open source; manageable, powerful, capable of doing the most, robust features, lots of free plugins, large community that supports it.

looking at drupal and their ecommerce, which i'm highly interested in, they have come up with a better solution to paypal. apparently paypal requires the customer to register with paypal after the first transaction. drupal is teaming up with someone, name escapes me right now, that does not require any of that and is feeless.

Joomla is the most preferred open source CMS.

Asking what CMS is the best is like asking what tool is the best.
Would you use a hammer to saw a piece of wood? The question is flawed.

I use Wordpress for blogs. ModX for everything else (it's a coders dream).

Thanks for your time to have a look. Yes, it is a fork of Joomla 1.5 with a different Access control system.

 

Has anyone tried CushyCMS? I am working on a site now and was considering this option as it is advertised to be very simple for an inexperienced (my client) person to use.

 

CuteNews v1.4.6 was released at 2008.03.29, so it's relatively dead.
DataLife Engine (based on it initially), uses MySQL instead of DB-less
approach of 2004's with a next DLE release coming at end of August.

 

I've been using wordpress and it acoomodates all levels from beginner to experts and there are no many people out there using wordpress it's easy to ask for help and get a quick response when you need help.

 

I really want to try to use Joomla, but I'm not convinced that it can rank as highly as WordPress with the same effort...

Plus - its more difficult to find people to program custom themes...

 

I think every CMS has their own strength.

 

Wordpress is a CMS. If you know how to customize your theme and use good plugins, you can do almost everything

 

I will have to disagree, e107 is good in it's own way. It is the most customizable one in the list. I think it's better suited for programmers.

Wordpress is not a CMS, it is a blogging platform. Joomla will likely have the best support if you choose it. If you want to try it out "behind the scenes" without having to install it here is the LINK.


There is no specific answer to your question as to which will be best for you. We do not know your plans yet.


It is enough to repeat it again, if you have small plans, choose Wordpress. It can be modified to do big things, but remember;

"You can put a Porsche engine in a Volkswagen, but it is still a Volkswagen."

It is possible to use both Wordpress and Joomla on the same site. You can put them in their
own folders and use them separately. Alternatively, you can use them together with this setup : LINK.

I think Drupal is the only CMS out there that will allow you to run multiple Web sites (using different templates / styles) on a single installation. It makes it easier to update the CMS (because you only have one instance to worry about) but it also has its drawbacks. I personally prefer Joomla CMS for its simplicity for most of my projects. It doesn't let you run multiple Web sites on a single instance but it's just as easy for me to set up another instance of it for a new site.
