Which CMS to choose for my website

    Hi there,

I'm planning on starting a website for musicians, guitarrists mostly.
I'd like to have something like Ultimate-Guitar.com

My current problem is that i don't have the enough knowledge to make a custom script, so i've been searching and i thought i could use Joomla or Drupal to make a website like that.

What do you guys think? Should i use Joomla or Drupal?

PS: If you know a better script for this kind of project please tell me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tiago.

Honestly i haven't come across a better cms than wordpress. There are lots of amazing themes and plugins to do anything you want to do. Plus they come at pretty affordable costs.

I would go with WordPress as well. WP can be a great CMS out of the box and with just a custom design or even a template. There are a lot of plugins available that will pretty much do anything you'd want to do. If you need something very advanced though and more customizable than WP I would suggest Expression Engine.

Wordpress is a powerful CMS and mostly tweakable. Plenty of plugins and widgets to do whatever you want. Plenty of themes that can produce the effect you're asking for. Wordpress isn't just for blogs you know.

    Hi,

The best way to do this is by understanding what you have in mind and what is that various off-the-shelf solutions have to offer.

We do some custom application development and also integration with off-the-shelf applications like Joomla, Word Press, Drupal etc. Know more about this by search us out on google by looking for Magnon International

Let me know if you would like any help on this.

Wordpress is the best solution I think : easy to use, many plugins and many themes. Stuff like joomla are good too but the themes are ugly

If you're going to post updates\news frequently then go with WordPress. It's convenient for frequent posting, tagging, and cross-linking .

If your website content will be mostly static with rare news then you may use Drupal. It's also convenient for hierarchically structured content (multy-tier menus and sections).

drupal, of course... if you using too many plugins with wordpress, it can kill cpu, or ruin your site (after all, plugins are made mostly by the users, so the coding is not too clear and can cause a lot of trouble, while in drupal the most interesting plugins are built in the code, not to mention the perfect integrated forum - which is far superior than any wordpress forum)

I think Wordpress is more intended for blogging sites. You'd do better with Drupal.

wordpress is very powerful but its not a CMS, you need to make it a CMS but a lot of customization..

you can try www.wpthemebuilder.com , You can do two things with it

    1. build wordpress themes with almost any look, no design or layout limits.. magazine, photoblogging, normal blogging , business websites, every type of template can be made

    2. Use its customized home page feature with editable widgets, content sliders which can be directly dropped into theme-builder and then it will generate admin panels automatically from there you can control your content anytime in WP-Admin.

Try it and you'll see the real power of wordpress then..
