I agree. Photoshop is the way to go.

All I needed to do was try one thing in Fireworks just to confirm that.

Pop an outer glow on, say, a rounded rectangle in Fireworks. Now do the same in Photoshop.
Which offers more flexibility and a WAY better result. Yeap, Photoshop :)

Thats just one simple test. 'nuff said :p

Well it is easier to use i'll give it that, and far easier to learn, and they do have some functions that are the same, but the results in Photoshop surpass those from Fireworks in my opinion.

It's the opposite for me. I get WAY better results in Fireworks then in Photoshop. But, I suppose it really just depends what you are using.

Here is a rounded rectangle with glow that I did in 5 seconds in Fireworks...:p

haha...I guess I misunderstood what you were asking for...If I was a graphic designer (or took an hour to figure out how to do it), I bet Fireworks could do the same. :D

Maybe we should start a competition thread of some kind, with a Fireworks camp and a Photoshop camp... :D

I use both of them, preferable using Fireworks because it's simply to use

I have the PhotoShop & Illustrator CS which isn't the newest but work just great (LOVE them) and I have an ANCIENT Fireworks like 3.0 and Flash 4.0 or something like that. heh - I pay more attention to keeping my Adobe products current. I wish I had current Flash and Fireworks, but alas - I am but a poor, poor struggling designer :(

[ if you feel compelled to encourage my whinning, please make checks payable to: poor widdle ol' me ]

I have both applications installed on my machine. I tend to lean towards Photoshop for anything image based, and Fireworks for my vector graphics work.

Potato shop for me all the way.

I've used paint shop pro, fireworks, gimp and photoshop - for all round flexability photoshop is the one. Even the vector stuff aint too bad these days.

Have both, and it really depends on what your level of need is. Photoshop is the industry standard among professionals - but with more ability comes a higher learning curve. If you are looking for the "best" - and if it isn't overkill for what you will be using it for, then go with Photoshop. Fireworks is fine, but more limited. There are also a lot more online tutorials for Photoshop vs Fireworks.

You might also want to consider that Adobe has reached an agreement to buy Macromedia and its believed that both programs will eventually be merged into one, with Photoshop surviving. Dreamweaver will survive Golive, leaving a Suite of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver & Flash- although it isn't going to happen overnight.

You can right click on any image in Dreamweaver and edit it in Fireworks...Then you just hit done and it updates everything for you.

You can also do some image optimizing on the fly

Its not a huge deal but is useful when you have a lot of images to do

I am a hearty supporter of Photoshop. I find I am able to make much more complex images, from professional web layouts to advanced abstract art.
