It's always the best idea to not use Windows. :)

I use exclusively GNU/Linux, Arch currently. I can keep my system update with only one command (pacman -Syu) and pretty much enjoy most of the technological wonders and innovations as they become available (as its bleeding edge).

GNU/Linux indeed is the future! The way Microsoft is going with Vista, it's not really promising. Windows users may soon be asking themselves what now. They can only choose between an ultra-old system like XP or an expensive resource hog (that doesn't bring much new) like Vista.. Of course, the best choice is neither, getting out of the windows world to something libre like GNU/Linux.

I recommend Ubuntu for beginners, though Mandriva and SUSE aren't bad either. I hear Ubuntu is holding around 25% of the 'NUX market at the moment.

What impresses me is that, despite the clamor of Linux zealots claiming that only the uninformed who are duped by Microsoft would not understand that Linux is the only way to go, even on a webmasters' forum like this we still see almost 80% using Windows and less than 15% using Linux. In the "general population", one would expect this to be much less.

No wonder Microsoft is shaking in their boots at the frightening pace Linux is eating up the market share.

Yup ... you're right. Despite I mainly used Linux and Solaris for works, I rarely use that OS for my personal usage at home... Lucky me..

I use all three, but my primary system is Mac OS X. I've experimented with desktop Linux, but I've never found anything that desktop Linux could do that OS X couldn't. Of course, I work with a variety of OSes for hosting web sites, mostly FreeBSD and RedHat. I also use Windows, mostly to play Civ 4 and to check html layouts in IE 6/win. When OS X 10.5 is released, I'll probably get an intel Mac and partition the hard drive to run all three.

Um, you do understand it's still in beta, right? You haven't even seen the whole OS yet, let alone the cleaned and debugged code that most of the world will get when it's released in a year or so.

Obviously I do understand that it's beta as of now, and I haven't tested the final version, so what do you think I was commenting on? :)

It seems to me you were slamming an obviously unfinished work in progress as a piece of crap. How much sense does that make?

I'm sorry. You're right. You didn't say it was a piece of crap. You said it was a piece of shit. I stand corrected. But it's still a dumb comment.
