I purchased our new ecommerce cart from x-cart.com and I was thinking of their SSL certificate for 80 bucks. My qustion is if I bought this, is this some kind of software I have to extract and install in our file system or? I just need to protect our /shop directory. Also, will I have to purchase anything else with the SSL?

You need dedicated ip for your site, that is necessary to install the ssl.

Personally I use the simple Turbo ssl's by Godaddy, they are low priced and work fine in my experience. Most hosts will install an ssl cert for free if you do not know how. Many offer simple installation through cpanel style interfaces. Yes you'll need a static IP for your ssl, this usually is either provided with your hosting or a $3 or less per month add on. You will also need some additional info from your host end, a request, etc If you do not know how to do this it would be best to contact your hosting provider as they do differ.

Sure you know Godaddy's url but just incase http://www.godaddy.com or you can use my reseller ID account and save a couple of bucks on the ssl certificate 'it's the same as godaddy's' but a couple dollars cheaper for single year purchases :)

Note to admin I am only listing the above url to possibly save the user a few dollars, in order to do so it needs my ID. If this is not acceptable I appologize in advance :)
