Who Makes a Living From Selling Text Links?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Ajeet, Aug 15, 2005.

I know there are many webmasters who earn a living from AdSense, but are there some who make a living selling text links on their own sites? I mean is there a large enough market to make a couple of grand a month from selling text links from ones own sites. Naturally, I am excluding people who own brokerage services like text link brokers etc.
    Thanks

Make a living? I think thats going a bit too far. Can you actually make thousands of dollars of text links? Even if you're site is really good, a living? I'm not experienced with advertising, but thats a lot of money. You'd need a hell of a lot of text links to get that kind of money. The trick to making money through a website is to cram it with advertising of all sorts: Banners, pop ups and unders, and of course text links. There also should be a service of subscription that users can pay for. A living off text links? Wow.

Well what constitutes "a living" in India may be a great deal different than what constitutes "a living" in other parts of the world. The answer to the question is yes you can make money selling links. How much depends on a variety of factors.

sure it's do able, but it would really be a hard job, to just start from the start! If you own a pr 7/8 website, sell links on EVERY PAGE!

Make sure you get LOADS and then I mean LOADS AND LOADS of visitors per day per page! and make sure your site is a site, others would like a link on, like webmaster related sites!

I would say a PageRank 9 site could easily sell $15000+/month off their homepage. Even a PR 8 can make $5000+/month. There are number of such sites run by individuals or small groups or even open source projects

If you want to earn living by selling text links, you must have pr6 to pr9 site.

OS projects usually spend heaps on resources like bandwidth and storage space so they end up close to break-even.

    In short, yes.

I dont make a living off of it, but I am on par for about $4,500 for the year on text link advertising.

I make $250.00 a month off of Linkworth alone so that is $3,000 a year right there.

    It's a nice bonus. :)

its possible a pr7 text link usually goes for about 150$ a month, if you have sell 5 links thats 750 a month, if you have 5 sites, thats 3750 a month.

the numbers make it look easy enough...

the problem lies in getting those 25 customers and of course 5 pr 7 websites. but for 3750 a month you had better be willing to work it like a full time job.

I have a couple of PR4 websites on text link brokers, make about 500 per month. What other good paying links placement services are there? (or something similar ;))

Open Source projects (what David was talking about) -- sourceforge.net, apache.org, php.net and many others. Sourceforge is one of the few that uses AS and sells links.

Well before site got hacked I had a pr4 and was making about $250/month. I'm looking to get to just $200/month for right now and I'll be happy for a while.

As for your question it is possible but I don't see it happening off one site.

Which text link brokers do you use?
And how many links you have to sell to get that money?
