Why are so many young people dying from heart problems now?

I remember about 10 years or so ago the only people who died from heart problems were ages 50+ Now there are so many young althletic people ages 20 - 28 dying from heart problems. Is it because they are partying and taking illegal drugs or something?

Not sure about that one but, just 7-miles from me there are about 7 kids around the ages of 4-6 in a very small town that have a rare form of Cancer and alot of people I grew up here with have either Diabetes or other problems...

Glad I was gone for so many years and I'm planning on leaving again in a month...

It can be a wrong diet or if someone is training professionally it can be overgrowth of the heart.

Cancer rates are supposedly up in young people, which is likely a result of pollution and the vast array of chemicals which we use around houses today, but which were not in use in the past.

Heart problems are also up on account of a lack of exercise. People are fatter than they were 50 years ago and heart disease is striking people at an earlier age. There are several articles which say that this alone is reponsible for the fact life expectancy in North America has started to fall.

There are a lot of althletic people taking some illegal help to boost their bodies and then one day their heart stop functioning. Also, we expose today to the radiation more than a few decades ago. It seems that young people today have a difficult mission to live at least until 50.

overall health is terrible due to the eating habbits. The garbage people feed their kids is appalling. I am shocked that people give their kids a constant stream of junk foods from sugar coated sugar flakes to poptarts, it is just insane. THen they expect the drugs that the docs prescribe to counter act the damage?!?!? arggg!!

We are lacking a lot of essentials even in a good balanced diet of veggies, fruits, meat and breads.

Yeah like Michael Phelps is a world champion athlete but he isn't necessarily healthy.

His diet includes lots of junky carbs... just like everyone else. Its just his exercise program is about 100 x more than everyone elses so he burns it all off.

Athletes abuse their bodies by training so very, very hard. It's no good for you.

Because of the tougher Child Labor Laws these days - making our children weak. Back in the day when they worked 18 hours a day in the textile mill - none of them died of heart attacks!

It's VERY tricky detecting what is actually going on with information like this. There are endless ways where the data is correct, but the conclusions are wrong. There is a great little book called "How to lie with statistics." that showcases some of the common ways people use facts to create Truth that is False :)

I am sorry, I do not know the statistics, but I do watch a lot of sports networks every single day for over 10 years. It seems that in the past two years all of these young people are dying all from heart problems. I am also kinda nervous since recently my heart was acting weird, but the doctor said it was just cholesterol in my blood, but he was only speculating. However since then I lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks by exercising everyday and eating fruits and beggies so I am in great shape now.

There are definitely a lot of young people bought up on a diet of junk food who are finding that they have levels of cholesterol that are way too high for their age.

In the past it was older people who had to watch their cholesterol, now people in their thirties are having to modify their diets or face the rest of their lives on drugs that really have unknown side effects for long-term useage, as in 40 or more years. Scarey.

See I was always aware of bad eating leading to death, but I thought that was more for people who never excercised and always ate bad food who weighed over 300 pounds. I always thought I would just gain weight and that is all, but it seems like the heart plays a bigger roll in just normal eating. Normal eating meaning a combination of good food and some bad food. Ironically my dad looks young and is in excellent shape, and has no health problems ever and he eats tons of junk food. He doesn't even catch a cold.

Well that question was simple: fast food. Unhealthy diets are a leading cause of many deaths of people these days...America's population alone is made up of 60% and greater obese people.

I heard on the radio the other month that Americans put sugar in everything - even milk. Yes.. milk! Is this true? I don't mean people personally spoon sugar in to their milk but are the manufacturers adding sugar to everything they possibly can in an effort for people to buy more? Obviously that's a given (high salt/sugar) with most.. but milk? Come off it!

Here in the UK there seems to be a big push toward healthier food in general and manufacterers of 'trashy food' are having to conform to the publics standards, though some are still being deceitful and labelling foods 'low fat' when they're loaded with sugar instead.

I'll take a good cut of meat from the butchers and vegetables over trash food anyday. I believe anyone who knows how to cook would. It's generally lazy families who can't be bothered to learn or we're never taught end up eating garbage and suffering for it. Funnily enough these lazy families are usually on low-income or benefits, and I don't give a toss if I'm generalising as it's a good one!
