Why are social networks blue?

Nearly all of them are, why is this so? Is there a better alternative?

 

lol funny i just noticed i had the same thing for mine one; never even noticed this.
i guess blue is more of a popular web 2.0 color, thats why many of us use it.

 

Black is deep, red is power, blue is carm and relaxed, pink is girly. Blue is the best color, its all in the mind stuff, thats why they are all the same becasue they know this is better on your eyes and mind.

 

Blue its the color suitable for your eye and its matched with sky also most of people like this color so blue its great .i have most of other site comes with other colors

 

what about an orange? nothing that will hurt your eyes of course

Yeah I think blue is just the 'ín' colour at the moment. You will probably also notice that a lot of websites are dropping the fancy banners for simple, more sleek designs. I guess it is just changing trends, much like fashion. As for an alternative, I think you could try anything. I too tried to avoid the colour blue (I didn't want people to think it was a cheap ripoff of Facebook or Twitter) but for some reason, it always looked better in blue. Maybe it is because that is the colour we are used to?

 

yes blue is a colour we see often but I wouldnt mind a social network being a evernote.com sort of green, but maybe not everyone likes it? what about a turquoise?

While other colors might be disturbing for certain reasons to certain groups of people (racial, ethnic or cultural differences) blue is kind of a neutral color. Blue is the color of sea and oceans which are everywhere, blue is good for our eyes and kind of "relaxes" our brain. Believe me, social networks DO know these stuff very well, that's why most of them are blue.

 

I think...it's important for people to get a sense of trust immediately, which blue tends to help with

 

since the very first i have known are using blue that happens to be myspace & friendster .... finaly facebook came and copy the blue color idea lol

Yeah, i was using pink color 2 days ago and even i noticed blue is what 90% social networking sites are using so i just changed my site to blue as well yesterday.
