Why CMS rather than Blog?

Why use a CMS like Joomla when you can use moveable type and get lots of trackbacks and blog related traffic? Surely you are missing out or am I missing the point here?

CMSes are still good if you want to build a community of users, maintain a large website with a lot of information, offer downloads etc. With some blogs beginning to look more like CMSes, the line between them is starting to blur, but they each still have their uses.

 

There are several dimensions to an application package that might distinguish it from other packages, e.g.

1) Presentation features (e.g., Wordpress has a very large library of ready-made themes)

2) Application core functionality and extensibility

3) Database information and extensibility

4) Security (including spam control)

5) Scalability (users and performance)

7) Reliability (stability)

8) Backward compatibility

9) SEO optimization features

After searching and asking questions in dozens of forums for several months, I have yet to hear anyone provide me with any advantage that Drupal or Joomla may have over Wordpress in any of the above described dimensions. I have found that ExpressionEngine has greater flexibility than Wordpress in several dimensions, however this comes at the cost of ease of development and maintenance.

Of course, I am always open to understanding more about specific differences between packages, if someone can articulate them.

you can use both joomla and wordpress but the key point is what you expect from your cms. joomla is more complex and flexable than wordpress on many criterias.

i think joomla is good for big and communiry based sites and wordpress is good for small applications
