Why do computers beep??

I am seeing some unknown movie on TV right now. The actor is typing some things on a computer, and everytime he hits the return key the computer beeps. Why do they love to do this at Hollywood? I've seen this happen on every movie I can remember... and believe me, if my PC started beeping all the time I would end up throwing it out the window! :D

I guess it is better than being locked in Abu Grave Prison, crank up the music and have a double Scotch on the Rocks with a slice of lemon, works for me every time

I'd rather have what we call a "michelada". squeeze a lemmon in a cup, add some Worcestershire Sauce, salt, and some drops of Tabasco sauce, mix, and then add a cold beer...

What city do they have you locked up in Fryman

Last time I went to Mexico was Renyosa across from McAllen, I drove for about 5 miles turned around and got back into the USA because I could not read a thing on the signs on the buildings, figured it was time to get the hell out of there.

I'm right in the center, a few miles away from Mexico City.

Never been to Reynosa, but I haven't heard any good things about it. It is full of drug dealers.

Yes, a lot of it moves through McAllen, Texas, always has, drug money built the city and Miami too :)

It comes up Interstate 10 which runs east and west across the entire country.

Ever seen that "myth busters" program? They have tried out several Hollywood myths and all of them are false.

    I love that program :D

For years I would open the case and disconnect the speaker so it would not beep at me. I had one computer at work that you could not disconnect the speaker. It was soldered in. So I cut the wires. My speakers are never (well, rarely) turned on. I never understood why a tool should make presumedly plesant noises when it is activated.

But then again, TV authors seem to think that you can use an acoustic coupler (good for what, 600-900 bps) and get full motion video through the phone lines. Why not have computers click every button you push and beep when you hit return and chirp when it spits back its answer..
