Why is Google Such an F Up?

I have already changed a lot of my sites to Yahoo, but those that don't generate many Yahoo ads I've left with Google. I've noticed lately that nearly all of them have switched my 4 ads block to 2 ads, making my pages look like absolute sh!t. Does Google think that this is good for somebody - to make a perfectly good website look like a spammy piece of crap? I mean, how f'ing hard is it to understand that when you design your page for four ads and they give you two it will end up looking like some drunk vomitted a bunch of random spam onto the page?

Does "design your page for ads" mean you've tried to format 4 pictures next to them so users are enticed to click on them? Shouldn't your page be designed for..oh, maybe users, instead?

No - I just have a lot of obviously unintended white space where the "4" ads I thought I was getting would be. As far as designing my pages for users, that's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Now my pages look like crappy spam sites, not like a site DESIGNED FOR USERS. I'm sure that the ads get more attention now because people notice something's wrong and so they look at it and say, "What's that crap?" Maybe they'll click more (in the beginning), but it definitely makes my site look bad.

I was wondering if this happened to anyone else.

My site was doing great for months, when ads filled up the ad space.

    However...

starting just after December 25, Google now shows 2 ads instead of 4.

My income has dropped in HALF!!!!!

    What is the deal???!!??

Dude, to make you site look even better, you should not use ads at all. You could go completely non-profit. That would solve the "white space" problem. Otherwise, I would suggest to quit complaining about something like this.

You don't understand that Google is not "F'd up" as you put it. You just need to pick a more competitive keyword, so there are more then two ads to display.

There's no problem with the market I'm in - plenty of ads for it. Thanks for the suggestion, though. And I'm sorry if I sound so negative. I guess that's the unintended consequence - that others who read this have to wade through another "complaining" post. ... You see, my post was intended for Google itself. I know they read boards like this one. It's much better than sending them an email - which would be essentially ignored. I was talking to Google. (*waves* "Hi, G! ... Uh, how about getting your act together?")

Well it is not the content matters, but the Google ads matters.

Recently I experienc the same thing that 4 ads unit (esspecially 336 x 280) always display 2 ads instead of 4. I have total 3 ads spaces in my page (160 x 600, 480 x 60 and 336 x 280) the other two ads display very well with full ads unit but the 336 x 280.

That means not because of Google do not have enough ads to serve, they do it for a reason. And the reason for that was already explained by Goooge in a topic somewhere here.

I also did some searches on the very popular sites which have the same ads format 336 x 280, they also experience the same problem.

So read the topic in this forum to know why Google is doing so ....

Or a wild guess, G reacts to the four image trick next to its ads. Coz most of publisher who want to add image next to ads, they often choose 336 x 280. Probably .... :D

    Hi

This has happened on all my blogs to. Can anyone point me to the explanation referred to above? I thought it was just due to there being less ads available, but if its permanent then I'll change the ad unit.

Remember that Google gets paid everytime one of those ads is clicked as well, therefore, I can't see them doing this to upset you in anyway and I would have to assume that they have research that backs their claims up. As for their explination it seems to make sense to me. I can't think of any other reason that they would do this because they are not only trying to maximize revenue for you but for them as well. Just my opinion.

I agree, but I think they're looking at it short-term. I believe G now looks at things in terms of quarters now that they have stock holders to impress. ... When it makes the site look bad, it doesn't help you in the long run.

yeah but the question is why you put those images there in the first place, probably to increase CTR, and you know how Google is steadily but slowly getting annoyed about people doing this.

So if this doesn't work why not search for a creative solution that words with 4 and 2 ads? A true webdesigner should be able to find something for every occassion ;).

Not everyone does the images thing. For those of us who include the ads within text copy it means we end up with 'ugly' whitespace.

    Andy

[Edit] Changed it to the 250x 250 square which works fine. Thank god for the adsense deluxe plugin :)

True, I dislike it too but it's the way it is, there is not much you can do about it or to look for another solution. The ugly white space is mainly annoying because it hurts your blending and CTR's, while google claims it only shows the two most profitable ads, maybe they will make it an option in the future.

Not sure, but I haven't used Google ads lately. Could this be another variation or part of the Google Trojan Virus
