Why is my screen riplling when I scroll down?

I have had no end of problems with my computer this week. Now although everything else has been fine for at least five minutes I have a very annoying ripple effect when I scroll down. Do you think it is anything to do with the graphic card or display settings?

I tried to Google it but only came up with tuts on how to create the ripple effect on photos and stuff like that.

I get that when there's heavy background stuff running? Have you maybe got some rouge processes running somewhere? Are you using IE or summit better?

I'm using Firefox and have nothing else open except for Outlook :(

After getting the machine back from the shop a second time I had to repair the XP because of a corrupted ntfs.sys file. Now that that is done I'd say the computer seems slower and I have this annoying ripple.

Do a CTRL+ALT+Delete to open Task manager - see if anything looks like its being greedy with its memory usage in the processes. Maybe there's a background AV scan running or something.

i'd download a fresh copy of the latest video card drivers for your card and install them, even if you already have the latest installed. something could have gotten corrupt in your drivers.

Okay, thanks everybody. I'll download the latest drivers and see if that does the trick. DIO when I opened the task manager I was amazed to see how many processes were running. I'd have liked to copy and paste it here but couldn't find how to do it. I know there is always lots going on in the background but didn't expect to find that many.

Yeah - there are a few you can turn off as well, without to much hassle - there are some handy guides around on the web.

Could be worse. I just got a new Dell with dual monitors that can be run in landscape or portrait mode. The problem is when I try to switch to portrait mode, the computer shuts off instantly.

If it was Microsoft they would call that a "feature"
